Greetings, Thomaston-Upson Schools Family,
I am honored and humbled to serve as your next Superintendent of Schools. As I prepare to officially join the Thomaston-Upson community on July 1, I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself and share a bit about who I am, both as an educator and as a person.
I come to Thomaston-Upson with 29 years of experience in public education, most recently serving as Deputy Superintendent at Valdosta City Schools. Among those years, I spent 15 as a school principal, an experience that grounds me in the daily realities of classrooms, hallways, and the relationships that make schools come alive. Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of working alongside dedicated teachers, staff, families, and students, and that experience has only deepened my belief that when a community rallies around its schools, remarkable things happen.
I am a proud husband to my wife, Contina, who shares my passion for people and community. Together, we are the proud parents of six adult children. We are excited to plant roots in Thomaston and become a part of everything that makes this community special.
To our students, you are the reason we are all here, and I cannot wait to meet you. To our staff, I look forward to learning from you and working alongside you. To our families and community members, your partnership is essential, and I promise to always keep your children at the center of every decision I make. One of my earliest priorities will be working alongside all of you to develop a shared Portrait of a Graduate, a community-driven vision of what every Thomaston-Upson student should know, be able to do, and embody by the time they walk across that graduation stage.
I am a Knight, and I am home.
With gratitude and excitement,
Dr. Tret Witherspoon
Superintendent, Thomaston-Upson Schools
