School Involvement Opportunities
Want to get involved in Thomaston-Upson Schools? Here are some ideas:
Partners In Education: The T-U Schools Partnership In Education program is administered by the office of School and Community Relations and coordinated by the individual schools. If you are interested in becoming a Partner In Education with the Thomaston-Upson School System, please contact Karen Truesdale at 706-646-9325 or by email at: email@example.com.
VIP Reader: VIP Readers visit an assigned K-5 classroom each month and read to the students. Schools begin signing up VIP Readers at the beginning of the school year, so contact ULSE or ULNE or the Office of School & Community Relations if you are interested in being a VIP Reader.
Parent/Teacher Organization (PTO): Information about joining the PTO is sent home with students at the beginning of the school year. PTO meetings are advertised on the schools and system websites. PTO exists at ULSE, ULNE, and ULMS. Contact the school of your choice for information on joining the organization.
Booster Clubs: These clubs exist at Upson-Lee High School and provide family and community support to the athletic program and to the band program. Contact the school at 706-647-8171 for more information.
School Councils: School Councils are advisory bodies consisting of parents/guardians, business/community members, teachers, and the school principal. They provide advice and recommendations to the school principal and, where appropriate, the local board of education and local school superintendent on matters relating to school improvement and student achievement. Contact the school principal if you are interested in serving on the School Council. All School Council meetings are advertised and open to the public.
Mentor: Contact the school principal or the Office of School & Community Relations if you are interested in being a mentor.
Work-Based Learning Employer: Students at Upson-Lee High School have the opportunity to participate in work-based learning programs. We are always in need of local businesses willing to employ one or more of these students. Contact ULHS at 706.647.8171 or the Office of School & Community Relations if you would like to become a work-based learning employer.
Additional School Opportunities: Each school has unique opportunities for parent and community member involvement, such as club sponsors (share your passion for crafts by volunteering as a Craft Club sponsor, for example), career day participants (inform students about your chosen profession), or office volunteers (make copies). Check with the school of your choice for available volunteer opportunities.
